Dr. Phil Anderson, Management Department, and Dr. Leigh Lawton, Marketing Department, presented a paper, "Is Simulation Performance Related to Application? An Exploratory Study," at the Association for Business Simulation and Experiential Learning conference March 20-21 in Pensacola, Fla. Anderson and Lawton, along with co-author Dr. Tim Scott, of Minnesota State University, Mankato, also presented "Threshold Marketer -- A Family of Marketing Simulations," a demonstration of the new marketing simulations they just developed. The paper was published in the conference proceedings.
Sister Christine Athans, B.V.M., School of Divinity, has completed the history of the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity of the University of St. Thomas, To Work for the Whole People: John Ireland's Seminary in St. Paul, published by Paulist Press. She will give a public lecture on the book at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, in Brady Educational Center Auditorium on the South campus. A reception and book signing will follow. Everyone is invited.
Dr. Eugene Audette, School of Education, recently participated in international conference of the Academy of Human Resource Development in Honolulu. As part of a pre-conference seminar, he gave a presentation on the necessity for theory builders in applied social science disciplines to engage in the systemic inquiry of comparative philosophical foundations to support theory construction. Also, while at the conference, he delivered a refereed paper for colleague, Dr. Nick Nissley, that presented a literature search and commentary supporting the emerging field of organizational aesthetics. In 2002, UST and the University of Minnesota will co-host this conference, which this year drew scholars from 17 countries. With two faculty from the University of Minnesota, Audette and Nissley are co-chairs of the planning committee for the March 2003 event.
Dr. Ameeta Jaiswal-Dale, Finance Department, reviewed the fourth edition of the Addison Wesley text, International Investments, by Bruno Solnik for revision and the paper, "Private Capital Formation Determinants: Some Evidence From Developing Countries 1971-1997," submitted to the Global Economic Quarterly, spring 2002-101, for publication.
Dr. Nick Nissley, Organization Learning and Development Department, will present a professional development workshop at the Academy of Management annual meeting next summer in Denver. The workshop, "The Use of Art, Drama, Poetry and Storytelling for Team Development," will be presented with his colleagues:
Dr. Richard Raschio, Modern and Classical Languages Department, participated in training sessions March 21-24 in Kansas City, Mo., that were designed to prepare the site hosts of the 2003 Central States Conference for language teachers. Minnesota will host this conference in 2003, and Raschio was named the assistant program director for 2003.
Gregory Roberts, vice president for student affairs, recently was honored by the Indiana University Department of Higher Education and Student Affairs with the Elizabeth A. Greenleaf Distinguished Alumnus Award, "in recognition of the sincere commitment, professional leadership and personal warmth characteristic of the distinguished professor and mentor after whom the award is named." This presentation was made at the 78th annual convention of the American College Personnel Association in Long Beach, Calif.
Dr. Jeri Rockett, Personal Counseling and Testing and Dean of Student Life Office, and Julie Gersch, pre-doctoral intern in Counseling and Career Services, recently attended the American College Personnel Association Conference in Long Beach, Calif., and presented a program, "Between Freud and a Hard Place: Integrating Spirituality into Counseling." The program was sponsored by the Counseling Commission of ACPA. Gersch currently is serving as the graduate student representative to the commission.
Dr. John Wendt, College of Business, was interviewed and appeared on KARE 11 News regarding coaches' contracts and the University of Minnesota basketball coach Brenda Oldfield situation. Previously, he also was interviewed and appeared twice on KARE 11 News regarding the Figure Skating Dispute at the XIX Olympic Winter Games at Salt Lake City.
