The Center for Ethical Business Cultures (CEBC) will host a public forum, “From Fool’s Gold to Financial Integrity: Restoring Integrity to Our Financial System,” on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Participants will hear reflections on lessons and insights from the banking and financial crisis gleaned by Joe Nocera, one of America’s leading business journalists and a regular columnist for the New York Times.

The event will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Thornton Auditorium, Terrence Murphy Hall, Minneapolis campus. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. A networking reception from 6 to 7 p.m. will be held in the atrium.
The program, moderated by Ron James, president and CEO of the CEBC, includes commentary from Andrew Duff, chairman and chief executive officer of Piper Jaffray Companies; and Dr. Peter Young, 3M Endowed Chair in International Business at the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business.
Learn what must be understood about failures in the U.S. private sector as well as in regulation of its complex financial system. What dynamic undercut stated commitments to ethics and corporate responsibility?
Also considered will be the difficulties faced by organizations and institutions as they are buffeted by the intense competition and high pressure incentives that characterize the financial sector. In a dog-eat-dog environment, how can organizations resist pressures to compromise business and ethical standards? How can they instill a greater sense of ethics, integrity and responsibility to all stakeholders?
