Brian Casey is an award winning multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, and producer. He is currently a creative director and senior composer at In The Groove Music, a Minneapolis-based commercial and television music house where he has composed the past 13 years writing original music for dozens of national campaigns and brands including ESPN, BMW, Coca-Cola, Enterprise Car Rental, and Health Partners. The recipient of a 2012 ASCAP Film and TV Music award for the theme to Discovery’s Alaska: The Last Frontier, his music has been heard on hundreds of television shows over the past decade. A 2005 graduate of the University of St. Thomas where he studied voice, guitar, and composition on his way to a BA in Music Business, he has taught songwriting and composition as an adjunct faculty at both St. Thomas and the McNally Smith College of Music . In addition to his commercial work, Brian has co-wrote and produced records with artists such as Glorious Monster, Man is Doomed, Blue Blazer, Becky Shaheen, Laura Lou, and his experimental solo material as Brian Casey the Destroyer.

This course is a continuation and further practice of the studio production techniques explored in MUSC 140 - Music Media. Students will become more autonomous in the studio as they learn to manage and run sessions. As students delve deeper into the many layers of Pro Tools, they will begin to discover how this technology is at its best when it serves the music, it's performers, and creators. Students will also further explore digital signal processing, plug-in's, editing, and mixing. Students will also further their command of microphone applications and placement thus producing fully tracked projects of their own, and preparing them for the intensive mixing course, MUSC 305 - The Art of Mixing.
