The Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Scholars Program) was a program at the University of St. Thomas from 2008-2012. The program provided advanced academic writing and research seminars, cultural and professional development activities, extensive GRE test preparation, guided academic and career development support, summer research experience guided by a faculty mentor, and workshops to prepare eligible undergraduate students for graduate education. Since the program inception in 2008, scholars have successfully graduated from the University of St. Thomas and entered graduate programs at several institutions, such as University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Maryland-College Park, Mayo Clinic Graduate Research Program, University of Minnesota, Purdue University, and University of Illinois-Urbana Champaign, to name a few.

Due to federal budget cuts, the program is no longer offered as a service to students. However, the University of St. Thomas is committed to providing support for low-income, first-generation students and students underrepresented in their field of study as they complete their bacclaureate degree with the goal of attaining their graduate degree. The Grants and Research Office is currently building a program, the Excel! Research Scholars Program, to continue the goals of the McNair Scholars Program at the University. Please continue to check the McNair Scholars Program website for additional information.

Information about the Excel! Research Scholars Program is available online at

The Grants and Research Office will continue to support current McNair Scholars as they seek admission to graduate programs. Current McNair Scholars should visit for McNair information.

The Excel! Research Scholars Program is located in Aquinas Hall 320.
