About the Mathematics Resource Center (MaRC)

The Mathematics Resource Center (MaRC) in O'Shaughnessy Science Center 235 supports student learning in mathematics through free drop-in peer tutoring as a service of the University of St. Thomas Mathematics Department for any ACTC student taking MATH 005 through 200. During the 2020–2021 academic year, there will be a mixed of online appointments and in-person drop-in tutoring sessions. The MaRC is also headquarters for Math Placement Exam preparation, questions and administration.

Student solution manuals for all supported mathematics courses are available for use with the deposit of a St. Thomas student ID card. Group study areas, wireless connectivity and extra learning sessions are other features of the MaRC. You may need to take the math placement exam to assess your math skills before you register for a math course at St. Thomas.

Students who have studied beginning Calculus, but have not received St. Thomas credit for it, are invited to take a Calculus I examination.

Math Placement Examination (MPE) Information

You may need to take the math placement exam to assess your math skills before you register for a math course at St. Thomas. Below is what determines if you need to take a math placement exam:

  • Math ACT/SAT subscore
  • When your ACT/SAT subscores were sent to St. Thomas
  • Intended major
  • Math course(s) required for major

You need to take a math placement exam only if your math ACT/SAT subscore is:

  • Below the required level for the math course that you are interested in pursuing.
  • If you do not have a math ACT/SAT subscore on record with the Registrar.
  • Your ACT/SAT subscore was not sent to St. Thomas within the last two years.

MaRC Tutoring

The Mathematics Resource Center in O'Shaughnessy Science Center 235 supports student learning in mathematics through free drop-in (in person) tutoring. This is a service for St. Thomas students (as well as ACTC students) taking MATH 005, 006, 100, 101, 108, 109, 111, 113, 114, and 200. 

Spring 2024 Tutoring Hours

 

  • Sunday: 4:00pm – 7:00pm
  • Monday - Thursday: 10:00am – 7:00pm
  • Friday: 10:00am – 1:00pm
