Mock Trial Team
The UST Mock Trial Team is currently working feverishly to prepare for the regional American Mock Trial Association competition in February. The Team had a busy fall semester, competing in three tournaments, and earning several team and individual awards. While new members are not being accepted at this time, if you are interested in competing with Mock Trial in the 2017-2018 academic year, please contact MockTrial@stthomas.edu. Mock Trial is open to all UST undergraduates.
UST has been affiliated with the American Mock Trial Association – a national organization of over 250 colleges and universities – for 25 years. The UST Mock Trial team has claimed numerous regional championship titles and individual awards over the years, including a national championship (in 1987) and a national runner-up (in 1989). In 2004, the team placed sixth overall, nationally.
Mock Trial is an extra-curricular activity at UST and is open to all interested undergraduate students (membership in PLS is required in order to compete with Mock Trial, as Mock Trial is run through the PLS organization). Participants learn trial advocacy skills as witnesses and as attorneys in hypothetical criminal and civil cases within the framework of the U.S. Federal Rules of Evidence.
