In Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, "model minority" Asians get audiences laughing with their weed-fueled antics. But the term "model minority" itself is fraught with problems--it highlights educational and professional achievements by some Asian Americans, while dismissing as outliers the same achievements by other minority groups. What are the costs of the model minority myth on Asian Americans and other Americans? What does this myth hide about the realities of working class Asians past and present, and what price do we pay for failing to question it?
