"The Anti-Deficit Perspective on Latinx Students in Higher Education" Read More
In partnership with Student Diversity and Inclusion Services, And Still We Rise series explores the intersection of gender and diversity. This month it is led by Ruby Murillo, Director of Latinx Students at Augsburg University. Join the discussion on The Anti-Deficit Perspective on Latinx Students in Higher Education on Wednesday, September 20 at 5:30 pm in the LDCW (OEC 103). Food and beverages provided.
When we hear of Latinx students in Higher Education, we usually hear about the underrepresentation of this community and focus on the high drop-out rates. Society constantly talks about the Latinx community from a negative lens and rarely highlights those who have accomplished something. Ruby will talk about those students who graduate and will share empirical data that shows how those students were driven to succeed. Ruby will also shed light on her personal experiences as a young woman of color navigating spaces in the professional field of Student Affairs and within her own community.
