12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
Location:
Luann Dummer Center for Women (OEC 103)
In honor of author Edwidge Danticat’s visit to the St. Thomas campus, we will explore her first novel.
At the age of twelve, Sophie Caco is sent from her impoverished village of Croix-des-Rosets to New York, to be reunited with a mother she barely remembers. There she discovers secrets that no child should ever know, and a legacy of shame that can be healed only when she returns to Haiti—to the women who first reared her. Heather Holcombe of the St. Thomas English Department will guide us through discussion.
Note: we'll be meeting on a Friday instead of the usual Wednesday this month.
