Alumni are welcome to visit and use any of the UST libraries during library hours. Hours vary depending on time of year so be sure to check before visiting.
In order to check out and borrow materials, alumni will need to set up an alumni patron account at the law library circulation desk or obtain an alumni card from the circulation desks at the other UST libraries. The card is not needed for borrowing materials from the law library but is needed for all other St. Thomas libraries. You may incur replacement costs, overdue fees, or processing fees for lost and overdue library materials.
The policies for St. Thomas libraries (other than the law library) are available at the Libraries website.
There is no interlibrary loan service for alumni.
The reference librarians can assist you after you graduate! We offer personalized research assistance and are available to answer reference questions by phone, email, or when you visit in person at the library. Below are some examples of the services we provide to our alumni:
- Suggest sources and materials on specific legal issues
- Help with legislative history research
- Help with international law research questions
- Assist in the use of library resources
- Provide tips for online searching
- Help formulating research queries on Westlaw & LexisNexis
- Provide research refreshers for new and recent graduates
The reference librarians prepare many research guides for faculty and students, which alumni are welcome to use.
We are also currently working to develop continuing education trainings for our alumni on relevant issues (for example, an annual research skills and resources update). If you would like the librarians to offer a CLE on a specific topic, please let us know.
Access to Databases
Some of our electronic resources/ databases are available on-site using the public access terminals located throughout the law library. However, some resources are not available to alumni per the educational license agreement. There is no alumni access to Westlaw and LexisNexis. County law libraries offer some public access to Westlaw and LexisNexis.
If you have question about a particular resource, please contact the reference desk at 651-962-4902 or email@example.com
