Before joining the University of St. Thomas School of Law, Dan spent four years enlisted in the United States Navy. Dan was a rated Boatswain’s Mate and reached the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer before being honorably discharged in 2007. As a Second Class Boatswain’s Mate he directly supervised 15 sailors, managed the training and certification of over 30 sailors, served as a member of the At-Sea Fire Party, and held the position of On-Scene Leader for the forward repair locker. Dan was deployed to the Horn of Africa, Northern Arabian Gulf, and New Orleans for Hurricane Katrina Relief.

After his honorable discharge, Dan moved to Minnesota. In 2009, he earned his B.A. in Geography with a certificate in Geographic Information Systems from the Minnesota State University, Mankato. Dan is currently working towards his Master's degree in Leadership and Student Affairs from the University of St. Thomas.

In 2010, Dan joined UST Law as a part-time Office Assistant for Career & Professional Development and in February 2011 he was promoted to the full-time position of Coordinator for Career & Professional Development. Dan serves as a member of the Judicial Clerkship Committee, manages the UST Law Symplicity system, plans and implements all facets of on-campus interviews, and serves as the point-person for all other structured hiring processes, including but not limited to MJF Summer Clerkships, state and federal judicial clerkships, the Minnesota Minority Recruitment Conference, the Hennepin County Bar Association 1L Minority Clerkship Program, and on-campus interviews. Dan also serves as a career counselor for 1L, 2L and 3L students at UST Law. As a member of the Office of Career & Professional Development, Dan is the self-appointed cheerleader for all UST Law students and alumni in their search for meaningful employment.
