An exciting law practice opportunity awaits the right candidate.
The Sixth District Public Defender Office, based in Duluth with a satellite office in Hibbing; and two law firms, one in Hibbing and one in Virginia, are interested in speaking to candidates about a public/private joint position. The public/private joint position is ideal for a candidate who can combine passion for social justice in representing indigent criminal defendants with serving the full legal needs of clients on the Iron Range.
Located one hour north of Duluth and two hours south of the Canadian border is Minnesota's scenic Mesabi Iron Range. This 65 mile swath of land stretches from Hibbing on the west to Hoyt Lakes on the east. The Iron Range offers many experiences and activities. For the outdoor enthusiast, camping, cycling, fishing, hiking, and riding the ATV trails showcase the scenic beauty of the region. Two championship golf courses, The Legend and The Quarry, await you at Giants Ridge in Biwabik. Also at Giants Ridge, in the winter, you will find downhill and cross-country skiing available. Throughout the Iron Range, numerous restaurants offer a wide variety of dining experiences, including Valentini's Supper Club in Chisholm - the host location of meetings of the local bar association. The ideal candidate would be expected to live on the Iron Range. Hibbing, a town of 18,000 people, is the boyhood home of Bob Dylan and features many collectible items in the Bob Dylan Room at the Hibbing Public Library. Well-regarded for its educational system, Hibbing High School is on the National Register of Historic Places. Virginia, a town of 8,500 people, and neighboring community Eveleth, a town of 3,800 people, anchor the east end of the Range. Virginia sits at the foot of the picturesque Laurentian Divide, and Eveleth is home to the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. The Iron Range is a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
The delegation representing the Sixth District Public Defender Office would like to meet prospective applicants on November 16 at the law school to discuss this exciting opportunity.
