Laura Thomas Named ITS Innovation Award Winner
The first ITS Innovation (ITSI) Award was awarded to Laura Thomas from the ITS Infrastructure Services team for her work designing and implementing a new virtualized environment for the data center.
ITSI Award candidates were nominated by their ITS peers for innovative approaches to solve campus technology needs.
"Laura’s diligence, creative problem solving, and innovative efforts led IT Operations to a higher level of consolidation and standardization than we have ever achieved before while saving time, space, and considerable amounts of money." - Jason Moldan, supervisor
Historically, hardware in the data center was continually replaced with similar, newer hardware. Laura's creative steps to build a new virtualized environment significantly reduced the amount of physical servers needed to support select systems and services, saving the university thousands of dollars in hardware alone.
In addition, the migration to the environment was completed without any impact to service performance for the university community.
