Your username is your primary UST account. Your username and password allow you to log on to UST domain computers, log into the email server, Blackboard, Murphy Online, and to access UST network resources from non-UST computers. You are automatically assigned an account when you become part of the UST community. Your UST account consists of a username and password.
All active UST students, faculty, staff; and approved consultants qualify for a username. Visitors or guests who require UST resources and are sponsored by a program or department also qualify for a username.
New student accounts are created after the student has been formally accepted to UST. It takes approximately 24 hours for the account creation process to be completed. If you have questions about the admissions process please contact your admissions coordinator.
New students will receive a username and all the other information necessary to activate your account in the mail shortly after acceptance at UST.
Once a new student has received their account information, he/she will need to activate their account before logging into university systems. This process can be completed by visiting: www.stthomas.edu/new
During the account activation process, the initial password the account is setup. You may select any password you like as long as it meets the following conditions:
- Your password is required to be at least 8 characters long.
- Your password is required to include at least (1) uppercase letter, (1) lowercase letter and (1) number.
- Your password may not include your first name, last name, username, or last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
- Your password may not include spaces or any of the following special characters: % * ; " ` # @ & , \ ; ---
The password with your UST username will expire every 120 days.
Any account holder may change his or her password at any time, and it is not necessary to wait for expiration.
If your password has expired, you may login with your expired password into the Outlook Web App email system in order to reset your password and access your account.
You may also visit www.stthomas.edu/password and answer the challenge questions that were setup during the account activation process in order to reset your password.
UST accounts will expire based on existing UST policy, according to the type of account:
- Student: 365 days after last active term or graduation
After this time period, a student will no longer have access to their Email, Blackboard, MyStorage, and various other on campus resources. Documents and emails will become irretrievable after this date and must be saved prior to account deletion.
Students will continue to have the ability to access Murphy Online after the account expiration date.
All UST student, faculty and staff email accounts have an option of including a vanity email account. The vanity email account is a user-friendly email address. New users to the University will configure this email address from a pre-populated list of options during the initial claiming of their account. If you already have a UST account and are interested in a vanity email, please contact the IRT Tech Desk. Please keep in mind that vanity emails are only allowed to be created once and will be based on your legal name, for example John.Smith@stthomas.edu.
