New Hire Paperwork
Prior to your first day of work new hire paperwork must be completed, verified, and processed by the Human Resources (HR) Department. The HR department is located on the St. Paul campus, Aquinas Hall, Room 217. Our office is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The New Hire Paperwork webpage contains a list of required forms.

How do I activate my UST Net ID Account?
Your primary account at UST is your NetID. This account allows you to log on to UST domain computers, log into the email server, and access UST network resources from non-UST computers. Your NetID, along with your Murphy Online account, allows you to access most of UST resources available to UST faculty, staff, and students. IRT offers specialty accounts which give users specific permissions in University Systems that are required by their position at the University.
You are automatically assigned an account when you become part of the UST community. Your UST account consists of a NetID (username) and password.
How your account is set up.
UST Net ID accounts are created once your new hire paperwork is completed or after the hiring manager completes and submits the Employee Action Form (EAF) to Human Resources. The EAF informs Human Resources and IRT that your new employee account needs to be setup. If you haven’t completed your new hire paperwork, refer to the New Hire Paperwork section above.
How to activate your email account.
Once your new hire paperwork is received in Human Resources, you will be setup in UST’s Banner system (record of employment) as an employee. After your record is established in Banner you will be sent an email notification (including a claim code) with instructions on how to activate your UST email account.
When is New Employee Orientation?
New employee orientation (NEO) is typically held on the third Wednesday of the month from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. You will receive specific information on the date, location, directions, and times of orientation. A continental breakfast and lunch are provided. If you are unable to attend your scheduled NEO, please contact the NEO Coordinator in the Human Resources department at 651-962-6903.
Where do I find Employee Handbooks and Policies and Procedures?
The Faculty and Staff Handbooks were developed to describe some of the expectations of our employees and to outline the policies, procedures, programs, and benefits available to eligible employees. New employees should familiarize themselves with the contents of the Employee Handbook as soon as possible, for it will answer many questions about employment with UST.
UST policies and procedures are designed to serve as an orientation and reference guide for all employees of the University. Information provided in the policies and procedures will enable employees to locate and use a wide range of University resources. This includes information about the University, as well as policies, guidelines, and support units that offer services of interest to employees.
How do I get started with technology?
The Information Resources and Technologies (IRT) website hosts several online tutorials to help you learn how to use many commonly used technologies on campus including Banner, Outlook, and the UST phone system. For additional information, or to access the online tutorials, please visit the IRT web site.
How do I know if I am eligible for benefits?
Generally, a salaried or hourly employee working in a regular position and approved to work a minimum of 25 hours per week or .625 FTE (full time equivalency) is eligible for benefits. The Employee Handbook contains a detailed description of who is eligible for benefits at UST.
As a benefits-eligible employee, how do I receive benefits information?
You can receive your benefits packet in the Human Resources department when completing your new hire paperwork . The benefit packet includes all benefits forms. You can also view our Benefits Summary information.
Benefits are effective the first of the month following your first month of employment. If your employment start date coincides with the first day of the month (e.g., July 1, August 1), your benefits become effective on that day. You have thirty (30) days from your employment start date to submit your benefit forms to the Human Resources Department. If you have questions about the completion of your benefits forms, contact the Benefits Department at 651-962-6520.
