Support Our Common Good

This is a photo of Austin, Class of 2018, pictured with the skateboard he created on a 3-D printer. He said, "It makes the commute from north to south campus a breeze."

When you support St. Thomas, you invest in the lives of students like Austin Otto, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering and a recipient of the Engineering Board of Governors Scholarship.

"I've known I want to be an engineer since I was 5 years old. I love learning about how things work and making stuff," he said. Austin is a self-starter and inventive; at home he has a notebook full of ideas, plans for future business concepts.

What brought him to St. Thomas was the School of Engineering’s emphasis on hands-on learning. That makes sense when one finds out that he bought his first 3-D printer when he was a sophomore in high school, and has built nine of them – from scratch – since then.

"St. Thomas has been the perfect school for me," said Austin. "All of my professors are great. They take time to explain things, and the labs are always open. Having access to the most current technology, tools and equipment is amazing."

He appreciates the donors who invest in his education and make first-rate facilities possible. "I am also extremely grateful for scholarship assistance; without it, I wouldn’t be here," he said. "I am paying for college myself, and instead of worrying about how to pay my next tuition bill, I can focus on the rigorous engineering curriculum."

Your annual gift to the University of St. Thomas gives budding engineers like Austin, and thousands of other students each year, the opportunity to benefit from a St. Thomas education.

Thank you for contributing to their success!

Gratefully yours,
