Study Abroad

Geology faculty have developed a summer short-term course in Iceland which was first offered in June, 2015. The course has two main objectives: First, to build student field skills needed for geology and environmental science research, and second, to explore sustainable energy options like geothermal heating, hydroelectric power, and alternative fuels that are used extensively in Iceland.

We also have had several students complete some of their geology major requirements as part of other off-campus study abroad programs. These types of experiences provide a wonderful broadening of the traditional geology degree and give our students excellent exposure to new faculty, new geological settings, and new cultures!

"Twenty years from now
you will be more disappointed
by the things that you didn't do
than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails.
Explore. Dream. Discover."
