The Geography and Environmental Studies programs offer a major in geography, a major in geography with a concentration area in geographic information systems (GIS), and a major in environmental studies. These programs also offer minors in geography, GIS, and sustainability.
The Department of Earth, Environment, and Society promotes active research, internships, student research grants, collaboration between faculty and students and service learning. Students gain a solid foundation in geographic principles and techniques, as well as a deeper understanding of how the interactions between people and the environment shape the landscapes we inhabit.
Highly valued skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, data analysis, communication, and collaboration are hallmarks of our discipline. With foundations in both the natural and social sciences, the department prepares students for a wide range of careers in government, the private sector, and education.
