“VISION (Volunteers In Service Internationally Or Nationally) changed my life in so many ways. It not only opened my eyes to the world in a way I’d never seen it before, but it gave me the opportunity to learn so much about myself—VISION set my heart and soul on fire. After participating on my first trip during my sophomore year, I was nominated to be a leader. I had the opportunity to lead two trips my junior year and became a Student Director of VISION for my senior year. VISION gives students the unique experience of leading their peers to communities, both internationally and domestically, to do service work and learn about justice issues. I am able to use the challenges, adventures and leadership training I had in VISION on my résumé and talk about those experiences in my interviews. The University of St. Thomas goes above and beyond to not only teach us how to think critically, act wisely and work skillfully, but has programs (like VISION) that inspire us to be morally responsible leaders who work to advance the common good—that’s something worth talking about in an interview.”
