Internship
Strategic planning intern at Fallon, an advertising agency in downtown Minneapolis

“As a Strategic Planner, I help out with conducting research, creating brand stories and piecing together observations to arrive at a key human truth. This human truth is then used to develop an insight that will take the brand to the next level through its advertising.

St. Thomas prepared me for my internship because although I did not have advertising experience on my résumé when I applied, the skills I learned while being on the Tommie Ambassador Team Leadership Board, the American Marketing Association Executive Board, the Undergraduate Business Council and a Marketing Research Assistant all translated quite literally for the role I was hoping for.

I am able to apply what I learned while in the Opus College of Business. Dr. Bennett taught me about the numerous types of market research that can be conducted, as well as how to collect and read data in her market research class. I learned about different kinds of digital ads, I made my own website, and I learned all the necessary terminology when it comes to online marketing in Dr. Giovanelli's interactive marketing class; and Dr. Sackett allowed me to administer research studies, come up with hypotheses, and allowed me to help analyze data while I was his research assistant.

I always knew that I was interested in marketing, but since I didn't decide on advertising until my junior year, I wasn't sure how realistic of a plan it would be to make Fallon my goal for right after graduation. Fallon was always my number one agency of choice, so once I made up my mind, I relied heavily on my professors and other on-campus faculty to help me successfully acquire my dream position — months before I even graduated.”
