A little about me

I grew up in Elk River, Minn., a suburb of the Twin Cities. I attended Elk River High School and graduated with my Bachelor’s degree from St. Thomas in 2013. In my free time, I love traveling. Whether it’s a new city, state or country, I thrive on being in new places and seeing new things. I have a weakness for coffee and will take it in any form I can get. I also love to cook and have seen just about every episode of Top Chef.

Why I chose St. Thomas

I initially narrowed my college search to the Twin Cities because being close to my family was really important to me. St. Thomas was the first campus tour I took and after about ten minutes on campus, I was pretty sure my search was over. I toured a few others schools just to make sure I wasn’t rushing to a decision, but those other tours only confirmed that I’d already found my home for the next four years. Another really important factor in choosing a school for me was finding a university that had not only excellent academics on-campus, but also one that encouraged students to expand their learning to other parts of the world. I had the opportunity to study abroad in Mexico, Spain and Cuba, and it changed my life. I’m now fluent in Spanish and I know that would not have been possible without the support and encouragement I received from St. Thomas.

A word of advice when choosing a college

You’ve got to do what’s right for you. There’s no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to picking out a school. Some people will tour one campus and know they found the right place while others may look at a dozen schools before finding a good fit. Do your research, figure out what you’re really trying to get out of your college experience and look for a school that aligns with that.
