Amplify Your Voice, Elevate Your Work
Have you ever imagined more than a half-million people reading an article that you published? Opus College of Business professor Mick Sheppeck achieved that accolade this summer when the university shared on social media a short column he authored for the Star Tribune. In fact, the St. Thomas LinkedIn post received a larger circulation than the Star Tribune’s weekday edition. That got us thinking…
Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are all strong social media channels for St. Thomas, and when we connect with our faculty, students and alumni the power of social media is exponential. Faced with the challenge of enhancing our visibility and profile as a university, it only makes sense to leverage our greatest resources: our human capital and our Tommie Network.
This fall we are undertaking a pilot LinkedIn project and invite faculty to join us. The goal of the project is to enhance our national reputation for academic excellence, demonstrate the return on investment for a St. Thomas education, provide value to followers looking to advance professionally and engage our alumni across the globe as active partners. Just as we do with our media relations strategies, we hope to share the expertise of our faculty, learning experiences for our students and success of our alumni. LinkedIn is a professional network that many of our alumni and some of our faculty already use very effectively.
Think about the professional connections you have around the world. If you’d like to be part of our LinkedIn project or learn other social media tips, please sign up for one of the training sessions being offered in October and November through the Center for Faculty Development:
