Often, the most meaningful learning experiences occur as the result of disagreement or debate in the classroom.
In this workshop Mike Klein (assistant professor, Justice and Peace Studies, University of St. Thomas) and Damon Shoholm (director, James P. Shannon Leadership Institute, Wilder Center for Communities) will lead participants through the following topics and offer guidance on cultivating contention:
- Exploring the conditions that make such conversations needed and effective
- Understanding different preferences in approaching conflict
- Supporting challenging conversations through an intentional culture of dialogue
- Providing support for contentious conversations within the context of your discipline and course syllabus
