June 4 - July 27, 2018. Participants will move into the residence hall on June 2, 2018. There will be a two-day retreat June 3- 4, 2018. All are required to attend.
No. The Excel! Research Scholars Program Summer Research Institution is a full-time commitment. Students feeling as though they need to work or attend a summer class will be dismissed from the program.
No. In fact, we are just getting underway. Students will meet throughout the academic year to continue to develop their scholarship. There will be Director’s Seminars that scholars will be required to attend to help you stay on track with your academic experience at UST and to assist you with application deadlines, etc.
Seven (7) students will be admitted to the program.
No. Again, this is a fulltime commitment. Absences will put you behind in the program. To ensure full success participants must attend all sessions.
Unfortunately, Excel! Research Scholars Program is no longer accepting applications from students outside of the University of St. Thomas.
The Excel! Research Scholars Program encourages and supports students who seek to study abroad. This is a great and wonderful opportunity to help grow your scholars. However, Excel! is a great and wonderful program too. Unfortunately, we cannot be in two places at one time. Therefore, if you are going to be gone during the fall semester following the SRI this is not the time for you to apply to the program. We encourage you to apply when you can work within the program’s timeframe to ensure that you are able to take full advantage of what the program has to offer and to ensure that you are successful when it comes time for applying to graduate schools.
Yes. It is not uncommon to change your major, add a major, or add a minor. However, if you change your major to a field where the services of Excel! are not needed the program, at its discretion, can choose to honorably dismiss a participant because the program will no longer be appropriate and therefore resources can no longer be provided.
Yes. To be and Excel! Scholar means to participate in all activities through to graduation. The Excel! Research Scholars Program requires full commitment and does not compete with student clubs, sports and other personal obligations. The Program does work collaboratively with academic courses and wants to ensure students’ academic success. However, it is incumbent upon the participant to organize their calendar to ensure they are able to manage their responsibilities with respect to all of their obligations. Failure to follow through on the program obligations will result in program dismissal.
Yes. The Excel! Research Scholars Program believes that it is equally as rewarding to give as it is to receive. Giving is a strong part of successful leadership and compliments well your academic portfolio of experiences. If you do not know what you would like to do the Program will work with you to establish a suitable and appropriate service project.
