Accelerated Admission Application

Admission into the combined Bachlor of Arts and Master of Arts degree program is reserved for exceptional St. Thomas undergraduate students and high school students accepted into the University.

Interested students must declare their major as the English B.A./M.A. and must have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher. While students can declare the English BA/MA as a major field, they will not be formally admitted to the master’s program until they have been awarded a bachelor’s degree.

During the fall semester of his or her senior year, the student must seek permission from the Graduate Committee and English Department Chair to enroll in three graduate courses during spring semester. These graduate courses will count towards both the Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees.

When the undergraduate student applies for formal admission into the MA program in the spring semester of his or her senior year, the Graduate Committee will consider his or her application along with all other applications submitted by the March 1 admission deadline. Successful applicants will generally have a GPA of 3.7 or higher, outstanding letters of recommendation, and a top-notch writing sample.

Graduate Cost, Financial Aid, and Opportunities

The Graduate English department offers merit-based fellowship funding for full-time students. Fellowship-awarded students in this program will receive tuition assistance for their full year as a graduate student.

Students will submit a fellowship application along with their general application materials by March 1st of their fourth year of study.
