Essay and Creative Writing Contest Winners!
The English Department would like to congratulate the winners of its English major essay contest and the Lon Otto creative writing contest! We thank those students who entered these contests.
English Major Essay Contest
Cassie Froese for her essay "'They Can't See Me Too Well Either': Uniforms, Costumes, and Passing in Mat Johnson's Incognegro and Victor LaValle's Big Machine," written for Dr. Todd Lawrence's ENGL 337 Black Mystery Novel class. As the first place winner, Cassie is awarded $150.
Abby Benson for her essay "Othering: The Emergence of Hierarchy and Dehumanization," written for Dr. Martin Warren's ENGL 211 British Authors I class. As the second place winner, Abby is rewarded $100.
Lon Otto Creative Writing Contest
The co-winners of the contest are Tasha Kazanjian for her poem "The Exit Might Be Behind You" and Cassie Froese for her short work of fiction "All Romans and Countrymen." Both winners are awarded $250 and will have their work highlighted in the 2019 issue of The Summit Avenue Review literary arts magazine.
