From February 26 through March 2, St. Thomas will host its annual Slam Poetry Week even. This year we will be featuring three nationally-known poets: Neil Hilborn (you may have seen his viral Button Poetry video, "OCD" which has had over 13 million views), Khary Jackson (a dynamic and powerful local poet), and Ashlee Haze. All three will be performing throughout the week. Khary and Ashley will also hold workshops for poets and aspiring poets.

Here's the schedule for the week:

  • Monday, February 26: 7pm -- Neil Hilborn performance (Woulfe North)
  • Tuesday, February 27: 6pm -- Workshop with Khary Jackson (ASC 202)
  • Wednesday, February 28: 6pm -- Workshop with Ashlee Haze (ASC 202)
  • Thursday, March 1: 5pm -- Khary Jackson/Ashlee Haze performance (Woulfe North)
  • Friday, March 2: 5pm -- Student Poetry Slam Contest hosted by Mike Mlekoday (Scooters)

Students can just show up to the workshops and all of the performances, but if they would like to perform in the slam, they need to get on the list by checking in at ASC 224, the Student Diversity and Inclusion Services office. Only 13-15 performers will be accepted, so sign up today!

This event is sponsored by Student Diversity and Inclusion Services, the Diversity Activities Board, the American Culture & Difference minor, and the Department of English.

All programs offered by the University of St. Thomas shall be readily accessible to individuals with disabilities. For details, call (651) 962-6315.
