Welcome to the Social Innovation Collaboratory

November 23, 2016 / By: Adam Kay, Associate Professor, Biology/Director, Social Innovation Collaboratory

The University of St. Thomas’ mission is to educate students “to be morally responsible leaders who think critically, act wisely, and work skillfully to advance the common good”. Liberal arts academic institutions typically excel at helping students “think critically” by giving them opportunities to participate in classes and extracurricular activities that allow them to gain perspective and insight into social, economic, and environmental challenges. Our new office, the Social Innovation Collaboratory, does like to think critically, but we want instead to emphasize another goal in the mission statement – how to help everyone “work skillfully to advance the common good”. We will do this by working with the many talented and committed members of the St Thomas community. Together, we will create partnerships and programs that give all students, staff, and faculty the chance to become changemakers who make communities more equitable, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable. We are excited to get started.
