Celebrating 25 Years

Financial Basics

Friday, March 10, 2017

Family businesses all get financial statements, but do all family members “get” financial statements?

If you or someone in your family business doesn’t understand the financials of your company, or how to read the spreadsheets your accountant sends you, Ownership Academy: Financial Basics can help.

Join us this March for a one-day course that will teach family members where the numbers on your spreadsheet come from, what they mean and how you can use them to better position your company for growth.

For those with an understanding of the financials, this is a great refresher course. Bring family members who don’t understand, and together you’ll be able to more critically ask the tough financial questions facing family businesses.

Learners will be able to:

  •  Read and understand financial statements including:
    • Income statement
    • Balance sheet
    • Cash flow statement
  • Understand the relationship between the three statements
  • Analyze financial statements
  • Increase business decision making using:

    • Revenue and cost projection
    • Break even analysis
  • Understand the basics of valuation including:

    • Multiples
    • Liquidation
    • Discount rate

This course is for owners and future owners of family businesses who want to understand basic financial concepts and statements, and for those who want a refresher. After this course, you’ll be able to ask intelligent questions when presented with a statement.

The fee for this program is $1,450 for your entire family and includes:

  • A one-day (9 a.m.-4 p.m.) session
  • Instruction from a UST professor
  • All course materials and meals
