In his recently published book The War That Never Was: Evolution and Christian Theology, Kemp argues that the controversy over evolution is not properly understood as a war between science and religion. Nevertheless, there do continue to be people who think that evolutionary biology is inconsistent with their own religious beliefs. The inclusion of evolutionary biology in the public school curriculum, reasonable as it is, does raise the question of the extent to which deference is due to the religious beliefs of anti-evolutionist school children and their parents. In this talk, Kemp will argue that the letter of the law allows, the spirit of the First Amendment requires, and sound educational practice justifies, a prefatory word, in the public-school classroom, about the alleged connections between evolution and various religious doctrines held by some of our fellow citizens. Kemp will speak to what the contents of that prefatory word should be.

An email reminder including a link to join the webinar will be sent to the address provided at registration for those who register by 10am on November 12. The webinar link is also posted above.  This program is free and open to the public.
