Amber Bieneck Thom
Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology, University of St. Thomas
How long have you been at St. Thomas? :
I started in the Career Development Center as an Intern in 2013.
Favorite part of your job :
I love seeing all of the talented and accomplished students we have on campus and helping students work on every stage of the career development process. I like the variety of counseling that I get to do – everything from choosing a major and exploring careers to interviewing and setting goals. I particularly enjoy job fairs and big event days because our students never fail to impress me!
Advice for students :
Don’t be afraid to make mistakes! When you don’t like a class or a job or other experience, remember that NOT liking something or making a mistake is still a good learning experience! Also, if you can, STUDY ABROAD. You gain a lot of great skills and intercultural learning is so important!
Favorite place on campus :
I love the buildings and landscape on south campus!
A hobby or something fun about yourself :
I love a lot of things, which is sometimes problematic – I can’t decide what to do! I bake a lot (which everyone in the CDC seems to appreciate!) and love to travel, go for walks and enjoy nature (without getting too dirty…). I also enjoy photography and scrapbooking. Most of the pictures I take seem to be of vacations or my cats.
