Card Care & Security

The new Tommie ID Card is a dual technology card utilizing both a magnetic stripe and an iClass SEOS chip.  Both of these technologies are encoded with data.  To keep the card in working order and help extend its lifespan, follow these guidelines:

  • Store the card in a wallet or protective covering
  • Do not punch holes of any kind in the card (if you do, you will have to pay for a replacement card). If you need to wear the card around your neck or at your waist, you can purchase lanyards at the Tommie Shop or Bookstore.
  • Keep the card away from keys or other sharp objects that could scratch the magnetic stripe on the back
  • Do not expose the card to extreme temperature conditions
  • Do not deface, decorate, alter, modify, or in any way tamper with the card (again-if you do, you will have to pay for a replacement card)
  • Keep the card away from electronics capable of generating magnetic fields which could erase the encoded data
  • Don't use your card as an ice scraper
  • Check your pockets before doing laundry as the heat will damage the card

The University of St. Thomas Tommie ID Card remains the property of the University of St. Thomas and is for use solely by the cardholder.  Help protect the card from unauthorized use by adhering to the following:
