Center for Campus Ministry E-News: May 14, 2018

This is our final newsletter for the academic year. Have a great summer and we'll be back the first week of fall semester.

From Our Chaplain

Fr. Larry Blake
Chaplain

Spring in Minnesota is often an abbreviated season as we experienced all too weekends ago with nearly 2 feet of snow being dumped on the Twin Cities.  As I look out my office window toward the Monahan Plaza everything is greening up.  As if by some grand design, the world we inhabit has been transformed from a land where it can seem to be "always winter and never spring" to a beautiful, verdant landscape.

Alas, this brings us to the end of another school year.  Undergraduate students who finish exams early next week will return home  while our graduating seniors anticipate their March through the Arches toward Summit Avenue on Friday, the Commencement Mass at the Cathedral Friday night, and Commencement on Saturday.

It has been a wonderful year for me serving as University Chaplain.  I hope it has been the same for all of you who read this column regularly.  I want to publicly thank our professional staff who have worked exceedingly hard this year on trips, retreats, liturgies and evening events. I also want to thank our student staff without whom we could not do half of what is accomplished from our office.  It has been quite a journey together.

Many years ago I learned a prayer that speaks to this journey. I offer it now to all of you.

"O God, you have called us to ventures as yet unseen, along paths yet untrodden through perils unknown.  Help us to go forward knowing that your Wisdom directs us and your Loving Hand guides us throughout all of life." Amen

We thank you for the gift you have been to our ministry
and pray that your new paths may be filled with joy!

Time to Pass the Torch

The Office for Spirituality welcomed the new Peer Ministers for the 2018-19 academic year at the Passing the Torch Retreat this past weekend.  Current Peer Ministers had the opportunity to share their experience with the new students as a way to equip them for their mission ahead.  We are grateful for the wonderful work our current Peer Ministers have done this year to create meaningful encounters in our student community and wish them many blessings in their future endeavors.

Students, faculty and staff had the opportunity to say farewell to Fr. Patrick Tobin who is leaving us this year.  We will welcome Fr. Vincent Davila, also a Dominican priest, to join our staff in the fall.
