Introducing Marta Pereira

My name is Marta Pereira and I am the new Director of the Office for Spirituality in the Center for Ministry.

I am delighted to join the Center and to come back to St. Thomas.  I am originally from Costa Rica and came to Minnesota 14 years ago when I married my husband. Very soon I enrolled as a student at St. Thomas, majoring in Theology and Catholic Studies. As an international student it was a tough start, but I was so thankful and  fascinated about the possibilities offered by these programs and the opportunity given as part of the Latino Leadership Program to prepare myself for future ministry and to be part of the nurturing community I found here.  I also did my graduate studies at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity and went to work initially for Latino ministries with the Archdiocese. Most recently I have worked as a Campus Minister for Spirituality and Retreats at St. Catherine University and as an adjunct professor here at St. Thomas collaborating with the Lay Ministry Spanish Program for the past two years.

I am grateful and joyful to join the Center for Ministry and look forward to working with the team to offer students a welcoming place where they can find means to grow in their sense of meaning and purpose in their lives. In my particular area as part of the Office for Spirituality my desire is to continue to offer opportunities to students and other members of the St. Thomas community to grow in their relationship with God, their spiritual development and enrichment regardless of their faith and background.  I look forward to meeting many of you in the weeks to come and please do not hesitate to stop by, my door is always open. Feel free to contact me by emailing me at mipereira@stthomas.edu or calling my office phone at (651)-962-6562.‌
