The Opus College of Business provides tutoring services for core courses in accounting, finance, and operations during the academic year. Although your professor is your first resource, the business program tutors are available to provide additional assistance at select times throughout the week.

Schedule: Tutoring begins the second week of the semester. Each subject has a different schedule, which you can view in the drop-downs below.

Students can schedule a 30 minute appointment online, or drop in during open hours. Whether you are stuck on an assignment or want to talk over a concept on an upcoming exam, we look forward to working with you! Schedule an appointment and read through our tips for preparing below.

Note: Please limit your appointments to one 30 minute time slot per day.

Preparing for your appointment

We have a few expectations for students who utilize business program tutoring:

  • Visit the tutor room as soon as you need help.
  • Attempt homework assignments before meeting with the business program tutors. Students should attend all class sessions and attempt their assignments before visiting a business program tutor.
  • Be prepared for the tutoring session by bringing your textbook, class syllabus, notes, tests, current assignments, and any other relevant materials.
  • Actively participate in tutoring by having a list of appropriate questions ready to ask.
  • Listen to the tutor's explanations to your questions and write down each individual step for problems for future review.

What to expect from your appointment

We have expectations that our business program tutors will provide:

  • Help with concepts, principles, and topics in their assigned content area
  • A friendly and respectful environment
  • Knowledge of resources and materials used in courses
  • Various teaching techniques to help students
  • Direction to alternative help if unable to answer your questions
  • An honest effort to help

What not to expect from your appointment

Please keep in mind that there are some things that our tutors are not expected to do:

  • Tutors will not do your homework. The tutors will help students with concepts, principles, and topics to the best of their abilities. They will not, however, directly give out answers or serve as a place to obtain solutions.
  • Tutors will not rescue you. Nothing takes te place of consisten hard work throughout the semester. If you fail to do this, showing up for tutoring a week before final exams may not help. You should come to tutoring at the first sign of a challenge in the course.
  • Tutors will not have all of the answers. The business program tutors are well-trained and knowledgeable, but they cannot be expected to know everything. Tutors will model the steps a successful student would use to find solutions.
  • Tutors will not be available for all subjects at all times. Every business program tutor is also an undergraduate student. Therefore, there may not always be a tutor available. For the most up to date tutor schedule, please view the drop-downs below and click "schedule an appointment."
  • Tutors will not know everything. The business program tutors will direct you to the appropriate resources to help you solve problems.
