Marketing Management Major

Become a Skilled, Innovative Marketer

With the St. Thomas Marketing Management major, you’ll learn how to critically evaluate the global marketing environment and identify strategic opportunities and challenges. You’ll know how to leverage research, competitive analysis, market segmentation, and target marketing to retain existing customers and attract new ones.

Our curriculum includes core business courses as well as specialized classes to develop your marketing expertise.     All undergraduate business students are required to take liberal arts core curriculum courses, foundational and major-specific business courses, and allied courses from outside the College of Business in key areas such as economics, math, and statistics.

    In addition to your major courses, you’ll also take interdisciplinary liberal arts courses in the St. Thomas Core Curriculum throughout your four years.

    Degree Awarded

    Students who complete the required coursework receive a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Marketing Management.

    Where practice and theory meet

    Students studying marketing management have many opportunities to apply theory to real-world problems and to interact with marketing professionals, in and out of the classroom.

    Hands-on experience in the classroom

    Multiple marketing courses at St. Thomas involve engagement with local businesses. In the marketing capstone, Small Business Institute clients present student teams with business problems that require solutions. Student teams diagnose the client's problem and craft and present a solution to the client. The Integrated Marketing Communications and Sports Marketing elective courses also provide students with opportunities to engage with real-world clients.

    International Marketing: Emerging Markets of Argentina & Brazil

    The marketing department offers an elective course in select January terms in Argentina and Brazil. This engaging study abroad experience has exposed students to the principles of international marketing and provided practice with decision-making in an international environment. Students in the course apply theory through case study analysis and meetings with executives in multiple industries and types of businesses.

    Tommie Marketing Club

    The Tommie Marketing Club promotes member involvement through speakers, fieldtrips, community service, career development, and social events. Members have the opportunity to gain valuable information about various roles in marketing and to grow their network within the Twin Cities. There are also annual opportunities to join the club’s executive board to practice and develop leadership competencies.

    Fauth Business Scholarships

    The Opus College of Business awards this competitive scholarship to incoming students who intend to major in Business. Each year, up to four $10,000/year scholarships are awarded.

    Learning Through Service: Business 200

    We believe that businesses need to be socially responsible in the communities where they operate. All undergraduate business majors and minors are required to complete BUSN 200, a zero-credit, tuition-free course that includes 40 hours of community service and a series of reflective seminars. This service learning helps you grow into a highly principled global business professional, and an effective and ethical leader who’s prepared to make positive contributions in both your profession and community.
