As part of the museum's educational mission, we invite you to join us for a welcome reception in honor of Fr. Onesius Otenieli ("Ote") Daeli, OSC on August 16 from 6 to 8 PM at the Gallery of the American Museum of Asmat Art at the University of St. Thomas.  An authority on the Asmat and accomplished educator, Fr. Oteteaches Philosophy at Parahyangan Catholic University in Bandung, Indonesia.  He has written widely on Asmat culture, including the social and symbolic significance of canoes and the changing concept and role of gender in Asmat society. Fr. Ote has spent more than five years in the region and will give a presentation on his work as part of the event. The talk will begin at 6:30 PM.
