Major Vogel is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies of Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) Detachment 410, at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. He is responsible for educating and training students from among fifteen universities and colleges for commissioning into the Air Force as second lieutenants.
Major Vogel enlisted in the Air Force Reserves in September 2003 as an Aerial Porter. In February 2004, he graduated from the Air Transportation Journeyman Technical School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. He earned a B.A. in Psychology & Education from Hamline University in 2008. He earned a M.A. in Education from Bethel University in 2012. He then earned his Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from the University of St. Thomas in 2014. Major Vogel received his commission from Officer Training School in 2010 and in 2011 completed Undergraduate Combat Systems Officer Training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.
Major Vogel deployed as an Aerial Porter to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in 2005. In 2005, he was recognized as the 27th Aerial Port Squadron’s Airman of the Year for his deployment efforts. In 2014 and 2017, Major Vogel deployed as a C-130H Combat Systems Officer to Southwest Asia in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He has accumulated over 1,000 flying hours including numerous combat flying hours and air drops. In addition to his military duties, Major Vogel has worked and taught in the public schools in a variety of roles for over nine years. In 2014, Major Vogel was awarded So. South Paul’s Teacher of the Year Award.
