Capt Franzen is an Assistant Professor of Aerospace Studies and the Recruiting Officer of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 410, University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN.  She is responsible for recruiting, educating, and training students from among fifteen universities and colleges for commissioning into the Air Force as second lieutenants.

Capt Franzen commissioned through AFROTC Detachment 410 at the University of St. Thomas in May of 2011.  She reported to Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina, in August 2011 and completed Aircraft Maintenance Officer Course technical training at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, in January 2012.  Returning to Joint Base Charleston, she held the position of Assistant Aircraft Maintenance Unit Officer in Charge in the Aircraft Maintenance Squadron until June 2013 followed by the position of Maintenance Operations Officer in Charge, reporting directly to the Maintenance Group Commander until July 2014.  As the Maintenance Operations Officer in Charge she was responsible for 120 military and civilian personnel in 8 specialties across 5 diverse sections.  The unit provided support for 52 assigned C-17 aircraft worth $11 billion.
