Study Abroad Financial Aid
Financial aid is available for study abroad programs approved by the St. Thomas Office of Study Abroad. Typically, most students are able to use their scholarships, grants and loans to help cover the costs of tuition and housing for any semester study abroad program. However, for shorter terms of study, such as J-term and Summer Session, funding is sometimes limited and students often rely on additional borrowing to offset their costs.
If you have recently applied to study abroad or are thinking about enrolling in a future program, here are some things you should know:
- Typically, costs for your program are subject to change and may not be finalized until shortly before the start of your program. If program costs or aid values are not yet available, you may need to rely on prior year information.
- If your program total costs are less than the same term at St. Thomas, your financial aid will be reduced.
- Investigate study abroad scholarships by visiting the Financial Information section of the study abroad website.
Please complete the Financial Aid Action Steps form below associated with the term of your program to determine your actual cost and aid availability.
J-Term Programs
Students studying abroad during J-Term are generally only eligible for additional loans to help finance their study abroad costs.
You can calculate the billable and estimated out-of-pocket costs for your program, with the J-Term Study Abroad form linked below.
