Political Science BA

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Students graduating with a major in Political Science will: acquire knowledge of the history of political ideas; demonstrate an understanding of political traditions, processes and institutions in the United States; demonstrate an understanding of comparative political processes, institutions, and cultures; and demonstrate an understanding of international politicial systems and organizations.

  2. Students graduating with a major in Political Science will demonstrate an ability to: carry out a substantial research project; cite references appropriately; recognize and formulate testable hypotheses; write position papers and policy analyses; and have familiarity with political science data sources.

  3. Students graduating in Political Science will be able to: interpret reports of research findings intended for an audience of educated laypersons; understand probability sampling sufficient for interpreting public opinion polls in newspapers; and understand the ethical implications of policy and political choices.
