Services for Undergraduates
The Center for Writing has peer writing consultants who can meet with you one-on-one for an hour. During this time, we can help you understand an assignment, interpret assigned readings, brainstorm, develop your ideas, focus on your main point, and organize your paper. People think we'll "check over" their papers and help them "fix" their mistakes. Sometimes people even hope they can just drop off their drafts and we'll correct them. In fact, we meet on average for about 40 minutes with each student. And we begin by having you read your paper aloud. In this way, we can both see what makes sense and what may need more work. The peer consultant will help you become actively involved in the session and in your process of writing. Together we'll find out what needs improving, and together we'll find ways to improve it. Ultimately, though, our aim is to help you become a better writer throughout your years at UST.
