Employment Opportunities for Students

Working in the Center for Writing is much more than a job, it's an excellent educational experience. Working with other students on their writing helps you improve your own.

To become a peer writing consultant, you need to come in and be consulted on your writing right now. You need to experience how we work and talk to the consultant about why we work this way.

You'll also need to fill out an application! These are available in the spring semester when we do our recruiting for the following year.

You'll also need to:

  • be an undergraduate from any major at UST or a graduate student in the Masters Program in English at UST
  • care about writing
  • have had experience working with your peers on their writing, preferably in classes
  • will commit to work with us for at least one year
  • have a professor speak on your behalf as a writer and student
  • be personable, flexible, and able to think on your feet
  • take a 4 credit writing course that prepares in the fall when you start working in the Center.

As a peer writing consultant, you'll have a flexible work schedule and excellent experience that prepares you for a career in writing or teaching. Your future in law, medicine, English Studies, editing and publishing, or business will be much stronger because of your intensive training and experience in communicating and collaborating with others as a peer consultant.

Peer consultants are hired during the spring semester to start the following fall.

Applications are available beginning in February of each year
