Message from the Director

Welcome to Women’s Studies at the University of St. Thomas.  Our faculty members are committed to offering a variety of cross-listed courses to enrich our students’ understanding of Women’s Studies as an academic discipline.  We also offer special events and opportunities for students and faculty to build community, including informal gatherings and an annual ACTC Women's Studies conference.

I invite you to browse through the undergraduate catalog and check out the Women’s Studies courses available at the University of St. Thomas and other ACTC schools.  Most of our courses are cross-listed with another discipline.  For example, BIOL 106:  Women, Medicine, and Biology is a cross-listed Women’s Studies course and can be used to fulfill a core curriculum requirement and a Women’s Studies major or minor requirement.  Our courses incorporate a range of teaching methods, from problem-based learning to service-learning.  For example, in THEO 431:  Women in the Early Church, I incorporate a service-learning experience to help students appreciate both the similarities and differences in the lives of ancient and modern women. Students volunteer either at the Jeremiah Program, which helps women and their children move out of poverty, or Women’s Advocates, which provides housing and support for women, and their children, who have experienced domestic violence.   Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about the Women’s Studies program.  I am happy to talk with you.
