Government Relations lobbies on behalf of the university on local, state and federal issues, including coordinating government approvals for new buildings and obtaining state and federal funds for St. Thomas programs.
Government Relations handles St. Paul issues and coordinates the work of contract lobbyists in Minneapolis (North State Advisers), at the Minnesota Legislature (Goff Public) and in Congress (Lockridge Grindal Nauen). In addition, St. Thomas works closely with the Minnesota Private College Council to ensure State Grant Program appropriations from the Minnesota Legislature.
Recent activities in St. Paul have included city approval of permits needed for construction of the Anderson Student Center. The St. Paul Planning Commission and St. Paul Heritage Preservation Commission last year approved the site plan and the design for the student center after the director of the Planned and Economic Development Department signed off on the Environmental Assessment Worksheet for the $66 million project.
