4 NCAA
provisional times for Men's Track & Field
The
St. Thomas men's track and field team had two NCAA
provisional qualifying times and top-five finishes at
Saturday's San Diego State Invitational. The Tommies
also had other NCAA provisional marks by distance
runners who competed in Saturday's Loras Invite.
At San Diego State, Andrew Hilliard placed second in the
400 hurdles (54.49) in his 2002 debut in the event --
just .09 of a second off the NCAA provisional time of
54.40. Craig Benson also ran his first 110 high hurdles
of the year and was third in an NCAA provsional
qualifyig time of 14.85. Roman Cress placed fourth in
the 100 meters in 10.91, just off the NCAA provisional
time of 10.80.
The Tommies also took third in the 4x100 relay (42.09)
and fourth in the 4x400 relay (3:17.25). The 4x400 time
was under the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of
3:17.60, while the 4x100 time missed the provisional
clocking of 42.00.
Other Tommies who placed included Andrew Kisielius, who
was was fourth in the long jump (21-6 3-4); Ben Garbe,
seventh in the triple jump (42-); Carson Glad, 11th in
the 200 (22.55); Pete Bernardy, 11th in the 400 (50.78)
and 13th in the 800 (1:58.56); Steve Rajewsky, 16th in
the 400 (51.11); and Aaron Johnson, eighth in the
hammer, 10th in the shot put (44-8) and 11th in the
discus (145-8).
At Loras, eight Tommies ran the 10,000 meters. Cross
country All-Americans Brian Preus (31:10.74) and Nick
Maddox (31:27.39) placed 2-3 and eclipsed the
provisional time of 31:39. UST's Andy Kummer (31:57),
Levi Severson (32:14), Ben Kummer (32:40) and Sean
Brenckman (32:58) finished 4-5-6-7.
The Tommies resume their outdoor season at home April 6
in the St. Thomas Invitational.
