Track
teams open indoor season at U of M
St.
Thomas had a few men's and women's track and field
athletes compete at Saturday's Northwest Open hosted
by the University of Minnesota. The non-team scored
meet included Division I, II and III and unattached
athletes and was the first of the 2004 indoor
season.
The Tommie men were led by Jason Schwietz, who
placed second in the 400-meter dash (50.68); Cassidy
glad, seventh in the 60 meters (7.13); Jason
Simmons, sixth in the 60 hurdles (8.82); Matt
McLaughlin (49-10) and Peter Rosholt (47-8 1-2),
fourth and seventh in the weight throw.
On the women's side, Kristal Grigsby was fourth in
the triple jump (34-4 3-4) , eighth in the long jump
(15-10 1-2) and seventh in the 60 meters (8.32); and
Mollie Bauman was eighth in the 60 (8.44);.
Mollie Hupp, an All-American as a freshman at St.
Thomas in 2003, transferred to Minnesota for her
academuc major. She won the 400 meters in 58.34.
The Tommie men and women will compete against Bethel
and some alumni athletes Friday in Coughlan
Fieldhouse (6 p.m.).
