Beckman
wins 800 to lead Men's Track at U of M
The
St. Thomas men's indoor track and field team had
several top-five performances, led by Bryce
Beckman's winning 1:54.44 time in the 800-meter run,
at Friday night's non-team scored Snowshoe Open at
the University of Minnesota.
The non-scored meet included Minnesota Gophers
athletes as well as many Division II and III teams
from Minnesota.
Beckman's time eclipsed the NCAA provisional
standard of 1:55 and is the fastest in the MIAC thus
far in 2003.
Roman Cress placed third in the 60 (7.00) and second
in the 200 in a season-best time of 22.30. Carson
Glad was fourth in the 200 (22.79) and fourth in the
60 (7.02).
Robert Ware was second in the 400 (50.20); Brian
Preus (8:33.49) and Levi Severson (8:34.76) were 2-3
in the 3,000. with Preus' time the fastest thus far
in the conference; Andrew Kisielius was fourth in
the triple jump (43-11 3-4); Joe Thomas was fifth in
the high jump (6-7); Corey Fusco was third in the
800 (1:57.79); Jason Villar was fifth in the 600
(1:26.7); Craig Benson was seventh in the 60 hurdles
(8.63); and Tom Hart (22.94) and Andrew Hilliard
(22.99) were fifth and sixth in the 200.
The Tommies are gearing up for the March 6-7 MIAC
Championships at St. Olaf. They will look to win the
19th team championship in the 19-year history of the
event.
