Indoor Track runs well in opener at U of M.
Two Tommies voted MIAC Athlete's of the WeeK
St.
Thomas opened its 2003 Men's Track & Field
Indoor season Saturday at the non-scored Northwest
Open at the University of Minnesota.
The Toms had eight top-six finishes. In the 400
meters, Andrew Hilliard (50.70) and Jason Schweitz
(51.02) finished 2-3; in the 60 meters, Roman Cress
(6.94), Carson Glad (7.12) and Hilliard (7.20) went
3-6-8; Glad was fourth in the 200 (23.11); Matt
McLaughlin was sixth in the weight throw (45-5;
Jason Peterson was sixth in the long jump (20-10);
Jason Larson was 14th in the pole vault (12-6); and
the Toms' distance-medley team was second
(10:57.98).
In the Deveopmental races, UST had two top-five
finishes -- Chris Mattke was second in the 400
(51.80) and Tom hart was fourth in the 200 (23.41).

McLaughlin, competing in his first-ever collegiate
meet, placed sixth in the 35-pound weight throw with
a personal-best toss of 45-5 at the Northwest Open
in Minneapolis

Andrew Hilliard (St. Thomas, Sr., Woodbury,
Minn.)
Hilliard, the defending MIAC champion in the 400
hurdles and 4x400 and 4x100 relays, opened his
indoor season by placing second in the 400 meter
dash (50.70) and eighth in the 60 meters (7.20) at
the Northwest Open in Minneapolis..
