Good
showings at Mankato for Men's Track
The St.
Thomas men's track and field team had several strong
performances at Saturday's non-team scored Minnesota
State Mankato Open.
Sophomore James Ewer placed third out of 47 entrants in
the 60 meter dash in 7.01 -- just off the NCAA
provisional tike of 6.96 (converted time for the 55
meters). In the 200 meters, soph Joe DeFrance placed
fourth in 22.58, and Ewer took fifth in 22.71.
In the 800 meters, UST had a 2-3 finish with NCAA
provisional qualifying times from Brian Sames (1:53.91)
and Matt Boumeester (1:54.84). The NCAA automatic
qualifying time is 1:52.90.
In the 5,000, Logan O'Grady was third (15:40.04). Mark
O'Connell was second in the shot put (47-10 1-2) and
sixth in the weight throw (48-8 3-4); Derek Marks placed
third in the weight throw (50-1 1-4) and 10th in the
shot put (42-9 1-2). Matt Schroeder took third in the
pole vault (15-1 1-2). Cameron Roemhildt was eighth in
the high jump (6-4 3-4) and ninth in the triple jump
(41-9 1-4). Alex Weaver was 10th in the triple jump
(41-4 1-4). Greg Dowe was fifth in the 500 meters
(1:07.33); Kyle Brandon was fifth in the mile (4:21.66);
Phil Bastron was 18th in the 400 meters (52.46); In the
1000, Eric Baumgartner (2:47.30) and Brendan Sherman
(2:47.69) took 14th and 16th.
The Toms will compete in the Minnesota-Wisconsin Border
Battle next Saturday at St. Olaf.
